Summer Shawl

My Estonian Garden Shawl is all done and blocked. This is such a summery shawl it just makes you think of parties in the back yard where ladies drink iced tea and eat tiny sandwiches. The Lily of the Valley lace border is very pretty and the bobbles weren't too difficult to make so all in all I would say it was a satisfactory project. I knit it out of Aaustermann Pharao, which is a light weight (fingering) cotton. I have never made a shawl out of cotton yarn before so this was a first for me. It feels very slippery to me compared to the wool yarns I usually knit my shawls out of. I can see where this would be an advantage in the kind of heat we are having now, but then, how often do you need a shawl when it is 95 degrees in the shade? I guess what I am saying is that I am not sure how much she will get used, but she is a pretty shawl to lay around in.

Lovely, just lovely! The color and pattern are stunning together. Don't you find the cotton a nice change? I think cotton wraps have a pleasantly heavy, smooth feeling.

Wow Jan. You are pumping out some amazing shawl work lately. I think a light cotton would be lovely and smooth on a shawl. I bet it was easy to unpick - if you needed to unpick a row here or there.

I linked here from the Lace Shawl KAL just to see your additional pics. I've always liked that pattern, and yours came out beautifully. I sometimes think that even the lightest wool is too warm for summer, and something knit from cotton would be a nice addition to my shawl wardrobe.

It's a beautiful shawl and I'm sure you'll use it. Even when it's hot, it's nice to have a shawl in the evenings.
